UK Habitat Classification Training
The UKHab Working Group offers four basic types of training:
- Short introductory office or class-based lectures for practitioners or students.
- One day training course for practitioners and students covering topics including survey preparation, use of the hierarchy, mapping protocols and the Field Key. The one-day courses will typically include a field survey session.
- Two day training course for practitioners and students covering the topics above in greater detail.
- Two day training course for instructors. Attendance is required for anybody wanting to teach others how to use UKHab, as we provide accreditation/approval on completion of the course so that consistency can be maintained.
CIEEM-accredited training courses are also now being offered.
The training courses initially offered are designed for ecologists that have a basic understanding of vegetation survey methods and existing habitat classifications in use in the UK as a minimum. Further courses, such as Masterclasses for experienced practitioners and courses aimed at early career ecologists, will be put on if there is sufficient demand.
Courses are led by professional ecologists, primarily habitat specialists who have led the development of the classification itself.
UK Habitat Classification– Training Webinar for Practitioners
Tuesday 19th – Wednesday 20th May, 2020 (mornings)
A two-session training webinar for practitioners, covering survey preparation and use of the primary habitat hierarchy, secondary codes, mapping protocols and field key.
Designed for ecologists with an understanding of vegetation survey methods and existing UK habitat classifications..
Learning outcomes will include:
- Knowledge of UKHab Structure.
- Habitat survey methodology,
- Understanding how to use the field key
- Awareness of typical applications of UKHab in ecological practice.
The course will be led by on behalf of the UKHab Working Group by Bill Butcher, lead author of the classification.
Course fee £100 exc VAT. Payment is required with booking. The maximum delegate number will be 12. Places are offered on a first-booked basis and subsequent enquirers will be placed on a waiting list.
